How do I use Grade Schemes?

Updated on

To access the Grade Schemes, click on Grades in the navbar and then select Schemes.

In this overview, you can see the available Grade Schemes. These can be used in the course and do not need to be created manually. The Grade Schemes are set at the Hanze level and align with the way results need to be entered into Osiris. You can create new schemes or modify the available ones if needed, but it is advisable to continue using the current symbols due to their compatibility with Osiris entry.

By selecting New Scheme, you can create a new Grade Scheme, and under More Actions, you can make a copy (Copy) or delete a Grade Scheme (Delete).

In the table, you will see several columns:

  • Under Scheme Name, you see an overview of the existing grade schemes.
  • Under Default Scheme, you can see which grading scheme is currently active, indicated by a checkmark.
  • Under Set As Default, you can make another scheme active by clicking the checkmark.

Make a Grade Scheme

By clicking on New Scheme, the menu for creating a new Grade Scheme will open.

  1. Fill in the full name of your grade scheme.
  2. Optionally, give your scheme a shortened name (this is optional).
  3. In the table, fill in the grade scheme:
    • Under Symbol, enter the name of each element in your grade scheme. For example:
      • Numeric (1 to 10)
      • Text (Fail, Pass, Good)
    • Under Start, enter the percentage that corresponds to each symbol.
    • Under Colour, associate a color with each symbol.
    • Under Assigned Value, enter the numerical equivalent that the student will receive (particularly relevant for alphanumeric results).
  4. Click on Add Ranges to add new rows to the grade scheme. You can add multiple rows at once by increasing the number next to Add Ranges.
  5. Press Save and Close when you're finished.

You can also create a copy of an existing Grade Scheme and modify it by simply changing the percentages, for example, 80% instead of 55%.

Use Grade Scheme

After creating a grade scheme, you must select it before you can use it. You can do this by selecting the desired scheme as the default on the grade scheme homepage (see at the top of this article).

Note: If you make changes to the Grade scheme in your Gradebook, existing grades will be updated to match the modified Grade scheme. If you do not want existing items to be adjusted, create a new Grade scheme.
