How to restore lost data in Brightspace

A handful of deleted course elements can be restored in Brightspace. This page details which elements in Brightspace offer the possibility to restore deleted data and how you as a instructor can restore this data yourself.

Any course items that are excluded from the items listed below, such as Documents deleted from the Content, can unfortunately not be restored. If you run into a problem with restoring data that's not mentioned below, contact [email protected]

Restore deleted discussions

If you wish to restore any deleted discussions, forums or topics, do the following:

  • In the navbar, click on Course Tools > Discussions
  • Click More options > Restore

Search for the Forum or Topic you want to restore and click Restore behind the Forum or Topic

Restore deleted assignments and submissions

For restoring a deleted assignment, click Course Tools > Assignments

Click More Options > Event Log

Search for the assignment and click Restore

You can also restore submissions. Therefore you have to click on the assignment from which you want to restore a submission. Then click on Submission log

Search for the deleted submission and click Restore, just as you did by the assignment.

Restore deleted grade item

If you want to restore a deleted grade item, click on Grades in the navbar. Go to Manage Grades

More Actions > View Event Log

Search for the grade item you want to restore and click on Restore behind it

Restore deleted announcement item

Go to the Announcements by clicking on Announcement at your course homepage

Click More Actions > Restore

Check the box in front of the Announcement(s) you want to restore and click Restore

Restore deleted quiz

Go to Course Tools > Quizzes in the navbar

Make sure you are at Manage Quizzes and click More Actions > Restore

Search the Quiz you want to restore and click Restore.
