Would you like to make a formative assignment from Ans available to students in Brightspace? This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to prepare an assignment in Ans and link it to your Brightspace course.
Prepare the assignment in Ans
Start by creating your assignment in Ans within a course you are assigned to. Once the assignment is ready, schedule a timeslot:
- In the assignment, go to the Settings tab and click on Timeslot in the left-hand menu.
- When creating a new timeslot, select All learners from the dropdown at the top of the screen. This ensures that all students accessing the exam via the Brightspace link will be granted access.
- Choose a suitable time or period in which students can take the exam.
You can also set the timeslot later, but it is essential that the assignment is open and available when students try to access it via Brightspace.
Link the assignment to Your Brightspace Course
Once a delivery has (partially) taken place in Ans, you can no longer link the assignment to Brightspace.
Go to the Brightspace course where you want to offer the assignment and follow these steps:
- Click the Content tab in your Brightspace course.
- Navigate to the unit/module where you want to add the assignment link.
- Click Add Existing (or "Add Existing Activities").
- In the opened menu, click More (three dots), then under Third Party, select ANS.
- In the pop-up window:
- Search for and select the Ans course containing the assignment.
- Then select the specific assignment you want to link.
- A new content item will now automatically be created within the selected unit in Brightspace.
Want to hide the assignment from students for now? Use the "Visible" toggle at the top of the content item to hide it.
Synchronizing Results from Ans with Brightspace
A grade item is automatically created in the Brightspace course after linking an assignment from Ans. From that moment on, you can choose to synchronize the results from Ans with the grade item in Brightspace.
In the Brightspace course, click the link to the connected assignment in Ans. Then go to the Results tab. Toggle on "Synchronize grades with LMS" to enable automatic synchronization of the results.
The synchronization of results is continuous. Any changes to the grades are immediately sent to Brightspace as long as the toggle is enabled.
- You can only find courses/assignments in Ans that you are assigned to.
- When synchronizing results, only the final grade calculated by Ans is sent to Brightspace..
