Before you can create a group assignment, groups must be created in the course. You can read more about this in How do I create groups?
Once the groups are created, you can follow these steps to create a group assignment:
- In the navbar of your course, go to Course Tools > Assignments.
- Click on New Assignment.
- Give the assignment a name. This name will be displayed on the Assignment page. Make sure the name is easily recognizable.
On the right side of your screen, you will see Submission & Completion. To create a group assignment, select Group Assignment here, and then find the appropriate Group Category.

Don't forget:
- To add students to the groups. You can do this by clicking on the group name and selecting Enrol Users, or by clicking the arrow next to the group category and selecting Enrol Users. Of course, you can also choose Self Enrollment.
- To make the assignments available, so they are visible to students and students can submit their assignments.
