Creating an online lesson can be done in two ways. Both methods ultimately have the same outcome. It's a matter of personal preference which method is preferred.

Create an online lesson from Teams

You can quickly and easily create an online lesson via your Teams Calendar.

  1. Go to the Calendar in Teams
  2. Click on New Meeting

You create the Teams meeting without inviting anyone. You share the participation link yourself with your students (via email/Teams/Brightspace).

  1. Give the meeting / online lesson a name.
  2. It is not necessary to invite students or groups. You can leave this blank.
  3. Set the options for the meeting / online lesson.
  4. Click on Save.

Open the created online lesson again (double-click on the meeting in your calendar)

  1. Right-click on the link to join the meeting.
  2. Click on Copy link.

You can share this link with your students so they can join the online lesson. For example, under the content of your course.

Create an online lesson from Brightspace

An online lesson can be created in the following areas in Brightspace: On a page in course content, announcements, discussions, or assignments. A link will appear in the chosen area, where participants can click to join the session.

Create a new page via Create New > Page or click on Edit to modify an existing page.

Then click Insert QuickLink.

Then scroll down and click on MS Teams Meeting under Third Party.

If you are doing this for the first time, scroll down and click on Sign in.

Click Create meeting link

Enter the title (this must always be unique) and the time/date. Click on Create.

Click Insert, and the link to the meeting will be added.

Open the link after creating it and consider whether you want to use the Lobby feature to only allow desired participants access.

Chats remain visible in the user's Teams environment.
