How do I export Grades?

Updated on

In this article, you will find a step-by-step guide on how to export grades from Brightspace. This is useful if you want to further process them, for example, by copying them into an Osiris import file.

The Export function does not allow you to transfer grades from Brightspace directly to other systems, such as Osiris, but it provides you with an editable file. Additionally, it is also a way to export a class list from your course. If you need a list without grades, read this article: How do I export the Classlist?

Export Grades

  • Click on Grades in the navigation bar of your course.
  • Click on Enter Grades.
  • Click on Export.
  1. Select which students' data you want to export – all students or a specific group (this option is only visible if groups have been created).
  2. Select Username as the key field.
  3. Sort by Last name first if you want to transfer results (grades or alphanumeric assessments) to Osiris.
  4. Select the Grade Values you want to export:
    - Points grade – the number of points a student has earned (not needed if transferring results to Osiris).
    - Weighted grade – the weight of the grade item (only available if you use the weighted grading system).
    - Grade scheme – the symbol (the final grade) a student receives for that grade item according to the selected grade scheme (this is essential for transferring results to Osiris).
  5. Select the User Details you want to export (user details are not needed for transferring results to Osiris).
  6. Select the Grade Items you want to export by checking the corresponding boxes.
  7. Finally, export the data to either CSV or Excel, depending on your preference. For transferring results to Osiris, Export to Excel is useful, as it allows you to directly select and paste results into the Osiris import file. See this article for more details.

Advice: If you want to use the grades for processing in Osiris, we recommend exporting the Grade Scheme. This ensures that the (final) grade is correctly displayed in your export file.
