Retention of student work

Updated on

The responsible archiving of student work in Brightspace is based on the framework “7 years unless” and the HG Selection List. Because it is not always possible to distinguish between final work and non-final work, it has been decided to retain all submitted student work in Brightspace for up to 7 years after the academic year in which it was submitted.

Visibility of submitted student work in Brightspace

A student’s work in a course remains visible to an instructor with access to the course as long as the student’s Hanze account is active and the student is enrolled in the course.

  • If the student unenrolls from the course, the submitted material is no longer accessible to the instructor. The work is not deleted, but it can only be made visible again by re-enrolling the student in the course.
  • If the student is no longer enrolled at Hanze, their account in Brightspace is also set to inactive. As a result, the submitted material is no longer accessible to the instructor. The student’s work is not deleted, but it is no longer accessible. The current workaround in this situation, if access to the work is required, is to reactivate the student’s account. Please contact the key user(s) of the program regarding this.
